Growing up.

So last night on our way home from daycare Nick (as usual) asks if we can listen to his song.

Now "my song" has changed several times over the last year...from Lady Antebellum "Just Lookin' for a Good Time" to Sandy Patti's "Miracle" to Lady Ga Ga's "Pokerface"...however one that he has really stuck with for the last couple of months is Casting Crowns "What This World Needs" (have the cd - love it - can listen to the whole thing over and over and never get tired of it!!!).

So back to last night...Nick wanted to listen to his song so I complied. "What This World Needs" started playing and I hear my little man in the back saying the words every once in a while. They get a part in the song where they have a little mantra of kids saying what the world doesn't need which ends with "maybe we should just get out of the way" and my 5 year old son repeats this and proceeds to say...

N - ...like get out of the way of God?

M - Yes Nick. The song is saying that nobody needs our views of the Bible, or of God, or of Jesus, they just need Him and His Word.

N - Jesus...hmmm....Jesus....like at Awannas? Like Jesus loves Nick?

M - Yes! Like Jesus loves you! And you learned more about Him at Awannas?

N - Yes!

M - Jesus loves you very much Nick! And He loves Nathan and Mommy too!

N - And Daddy?

M - Yes, Daddy too!

N - ...and Silas, and Ava (friends from church & pre-k) and Mommy and Nathan and Daddy and
Me... And Tina (his daycare gal) and Grandpa and Grandma... And the trees and branches...

M - Yes Nick...God created the trees and the branches and the sun and the sky...God made all of it!

N- Yes, but God made the rain, so we can't see the sun now.

And at that point I had to smile... My little boy is starting to get it...Gods love and what that means to him...and at the same time that God made the rain and that with that rain we can't see the sun...but that doesn't mean it isn't there...

And that sums up God for all of us doesn't it...always there, whether we can see Him or not.
